By using the Clear Reg app, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Clear Reg retrieves publicly available vehicle data from the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service and DVSA MOT History API. It allows you to check the tax, MOT, and compliance status of UK-registered vehicles.
Vehicle data is sourced from the DVLA and DVSA. We cannot guarantee its accuracy, completeness, or timeliness. Data may take up to 5 working days to reflect recent changes. The app is for informational purposes only. Do not rely solely on it for legal, financial, insurance, or safety-critical decisions. It is your legal responsibility to maintain valid tax, MOT, and insurance for your vehicle.
You may use the app to check vehicle compliance for legitimate purposes, including checking your own vehicles, managing compliance on property you own or manage, or verifying a vehicle you are considering purchasing.
The app includes features designed for professional use, including session-based scanning, site management, and approved vehicle lists. If you use these features to scan or store data about vehicles belonging to other people, you or your organisation are the data controller for that data under the UK GDPR. You are responsible for having a lawful basis for processing, ensuring your use is proportionate, and maintaining appropriate data retention practices. See the privacy policy for further detail.
You must not use the app to: track or monitor the movements of any individual; stalk, harass, intimidate, or target any person; build a database of vehicle locations for surveillance; attempt to identify or locate the registered keeper of a vehicle; scrape data or circumvent rate limits; resell raw API data except as permitted under the Open Government Licence v3.0; or use the app in any unlawful manner.
Violation of these terms may constitute a criminal offence under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997, the Computer Misuse Act 1990, or other applicable legislation.
The app displays traffic-light status indicators based on vehicle tax and MOT data. These are visual aids to help you quickly assess a vehicle's status, not official assessments of roadworthiness or legal compliance. They must not be used as the sole basis for enforcement action, penalties, or legal determinations about any vehicle or its keeper.
Zone compliance estimates are based on the vehicle's fuel type, Euro status, and registration date. They may not account for all exemptions or rule changes. Always check the relevant official service before entering a zone.
The app provides links to official government reporting services. We do not submit reports on your behalf and accept no responsibility for any report you make through external services. Making a false or malicious report may be a criminal offence.
The app can generate printable notices for non-compliant vehicles. If you choose to place a notice on a vehicle, you do so at your own discretion and responsibility. We accept no liability for any consequences arising from the placement of notices. You are solely responsible for ensuring that any notice you place is accurate, lawful, and appropriate in the circumstances.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages resulting from your use of the app, any inaccuracy in vehicle data, any action taken based on information displayed, or any interruption of the service.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded by English law. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
The app depends on government APIs that may be subject to maintenance, outages, or changes beyond our control. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability and may modify, suspend, or discontinue the app at any time.
The app and its original content are protected by applicable copyright and intellectual property laws. Vehicle data is provided under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
We may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be posted here. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
